Which pigments are better - thick or liquid?

Which pigments are better - thick or liquid?

Oddly enough, the density does not affect the result. In the sense that many people think: since they are thick, it means that a lot of dry paint has been added to them, it will be better to lie down and heal.

Not! They are thick due to thickeners, and there may be little paint there.

Very thick pigments have to be diluted, since it is impossible to work. They can only work on short-stroke typewriters, with a small overhang of a needle or in manual technique. With a large overhang, the needle simply will not carry the pigment to the skin. Most modern pigments are liquid, but very concentrated. There are almost no thickeners in them, there is a water-alcohol base, as well as glycerin so that they do not dry out. The consistency is similar to liquid cream. There is much more dry dye in them. On such pigments it is better, more convenient and easier to work with long-stroke machines.

How to check the concentration of a dye in a pigment?

1. Put 1 drop into a transparent glass of water. The concentrated pigment will brightly and densely color the water, while the weakly concentrated water will remain transparent.

2. Put 1 drop on a wet cotton pad and grind it. The concentrated pigment will paint over the disc completely, and only stains will remain from the weakly concentrated pigment.
